MyCase is a legal practice management platform built around case management, billing, and client communication. Used by over 18,000 law firms, it positions itself as an all-in-one alternative to juggling separate tools for invoicing, document storage, and client messaging — with the client portal included on every plan.

Client portal

Every MyCase plan includes the client portal. Clients log in to view case updates, exchange secure messages, download documents, review and pay invoices, and sign documents electronically. The portal isn't an add-on or upgrade — it's core to how MyCase handles client communication, which distinguishes it from Clio, where portal access sits behind higher tiers.

Case and practice management

The platform covers the full practice management lifecycle: case files with linked contacts, documents, notes, tasks, and calendar events; a firm-wide calendar with statute of limitations (SOL) deadline tracking; time and expense tracking with one-click invoice generation; and trust accounting with transaction reporting. Conflict checking is built in and searches across contacts and cases.

Billing and payments

MyCase has merged with LawPay, its integrated payment processor, allowing firms to collect payments online via the portal, text, or email. Billing features include LEDES invoicing, subscription billing, universal payment links, account statements, and a timesheet calendar. The platform generates aging invoices, AR reports, trust account summaries, and electronic payment reports.

Document management

All plans include unlimited secure document storage. Higher tiers add MyCase Drive — a desktop sync tool that maps firm files to your local file explorer and syncs changes back to MyCase without manual uploads. Full-text search across PDF and Word files is available, useful for conflict checks. Advanced Document Automation (Word-based template merging) is a higher-tier feature.

Communication tools

Beyond the portal, MyCase includes two-way SMS texting (Pro and above), automated event reminders sent to clients and leads by text, a built-in internal instant messenger for staff, and call logging. Secure client messaging links back to case records for reference.

Intake and CRM

The Pro plan and above include customizable web-based intake forms, a lead pipeline with CRM functionality, automated retainer agreement creation with eSignature, and consultation/retainer fee tracking. Immigration-specific firms get automated USCIS form preparation through a platform integration.

Pricing

MyCase offers three tiers, billed annually:

  • Basic — $39/user/month. Core case management, billing, client portal, secure messaging, unlimited document storage, and standard reporting.
  • Pro — $89/user/month. Adds two-way texting, client intake forms, lead management, advanced calendar features, eSignature templates, and expanded reporting.
  • Advanced — higher price point. Adds MyCase Drive, Advanced Document Automation, AI-powered writing assistance (via 8am IQ), and open API access.

A 10-day free trial with full access and no credit card is available. An optional data migration concierge service and custom website building (with ongoing maintenance) are available as add-ons.

Integrations

Native integrations include Google (Calendar, Contacts), Outlook, Dropbox, LawPay, LawToolBox (court rules–based deadline automation), Smith.ai (virtual receptionist), MailChimp, and Zapier. Open API access is available on the Advanced plan. The integration list is narrower than Clio's, which may matter for firms already invested in specific tools.

Limitations

MyCase is designed for small to mid-size firms. Larger or more complex practices — especially those needing deep accounting integrations, extensive third-party app connections, or highly customized workflows — may find it constraining. Advanced features like texting, intake automation, and document automation all require upgrading from Basic, so the entry price understates the cost for firms that need those capabilities.
